The Thinking Poet

A Marriage Vow

On this your special day

Each light a candle in your heart to guide your path;

Let two flames burn as one to light the way.

May their warmth vouch for your love

Which like a balm will bless you all your days,

Liberally spread like butter upon bread.

Love like bread, the staff of life, sustains.

And in straightened times of joy’s fasting

Let love not languish.

A table’s spread; gloom is not long lasting.

Grow together as a single mind

So that at every fork, the track you take

Will lead you to the place your hearts would find.
